Using Adobe Gamma
Step 2: Adjust Your Monitor's Brightness and Contrast
In this window of the step-by-step setup, you will adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast. This enables the most accurate screen representation for the gamma adjustment that follows.

Note: Make sure your monitor has warmed up before you make this adjustment. It will make a difference in the way similar colors display, especially darker colors.
As you adjust the brightness, if you can't see a difference between the two squares while keeping the frame white, your monitor's screen phosphors may be fading.
Once you have set the brightness and contrast, do not change it. If you do, the calibration you are making will become invalid.
